Economic Activities
Our borough has a long agricultural history, because stock farming and agriculture, and relative activities, have always provided to its maintenance. Nowadays this activities are reduced a lot, cultivated field are only those easily reachable by farm tractors. We produce wheat and others cereals, olive, out of which we produce a supreme oil, and then sunflowers, grapes for wine (the famous journalist vernally wrote that in Fresa we produce the best “cooked” wine), and also vegetables and fruits.
We breed ovine, bovine, pork, poultry, and bees for honey production, and then we have milk and cheese, but only for Fresa people, because production is not enough to be sold in the large distribution.
Most of the Fresa people are factories worker in San Salvo, Termoli, Vasto and Val di Sangro.
Since 50’s years methane layers have been discovered. At first the precious gas was taken to Roma or Terni, but now, after having fighting a lot, we can also use the gas for our boroughs.
Since 70’s, nearby the Trigno River have been built factories of bricks gres porcelain, pvc tubes, creation of clothes, plastic objects, steel carpentry.
There are many young undertaker in transport, building. installation, maintenance.
We can easily say that unemployment and emigration are almost disappeared, and it concerns only young graduated, that still are a lot. Now with us live also a lot of Romanian.
In our village we have one supermarket, two bakeries, one butcher, a flower shop, one shop of fruit and vegetables, one beauty centre, one pharmacy, 5 bars, three cloths shops, three hairdresser.
Handicraft in the past was quite flourishing (blacksmiths, carpenters, tailors, masons, barbers…)
Retired people are more than 400. Weekly market is on Wednesday, and the only fair survived is on the first of June at Guardiola.
